I am an independent machine learning consultant based in Manila, Philippines. I’m passionate about transforming complex data into actionable insights, helping businesses harness the full potential of AI to achieve tangible results. With a rich background across diverse industries, I offer a unique blend of technical expertise and strategic vision, delivering customized solutions that drive meaningful impact.

💼 My Professional Journey #

Currently, I lead the DeSeRay Project, a collaborative research endeavor leveraging AI to transform healthcare in the Philippines. As the principal investigator, I guide a multidisciplinary team developing AI systems to detect and segment pneumothorax on chest radiographs, from IT infrastructure design to deploying deep learning models. Our cloud-based solutions support daily radiological diagnoses at The Medical City, a top healthcare provider in the Philippines.

Previously, as an S&T Fellow II at DOST-PCHRD, I spearheaded data transformation and AI integration for the HERDIN database. I led the development of the HERDIN AI Recommendation & Information (HARI) system, enhancing metadata for over 72,000 research records and 4,900 journals. Additionally, I built a prototype for the HERDIN Information Research Assistant (HeIRA), leveraging Large Language Models to streamline academic health research.

At Ateneo de Manila University, I’ve taught various graduate and undergraduate courses in machine learning, data science, and financial risk management. I integrated Python and R in applied math classes, mentored numerous thesis projects, and founded the Health and Medical Informatics Research Group, ensuring our programs stay cutting-edge and industry-relevant.

Earlier in my career, I interned at Thinking Machines Data Science, where I developed a fraud detection model for insurance claims and contributed to various data science projects. For my first Master's, I also interned at Philippine National Bank, where I researched on Interest Rate Risk and created a Shiny application to help the bank in calculating interest rate shock scenarios.

I am passionate about pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence, whether through the development of ML models, enhancing data quality and usability, or exploring new AI applications across various fields. I am a firm believer in the potential of AI to transform industries and elevate the quality of human life.

Outside the realm of data and algorithms, I find joy in running 🏃🏻‍♂️, creating origami art 🐳, and maintaining a daily journaling practice 📝. These hobbies not only provide a creative outlet but also keep me balanced and inspired.
